Television Personalities - Fashion Conscious

The TVPs are one of those bands I'll swoon in and out of. I'm always in favor of them but sometimes more than others, and due to this my "favorite album" by them is always rotating. This is currently residing on that mantle.

There's something comforting about the delivery of these songs and the overall plaintive demeanor that I can't quite place. Surely , Dan Treacey's life story is not common knowledge, but through collections of songs like this you can certainly get the jist. His romance with misery is something to behold.

There is a weird kind of memory that these records bring on. Like a memory of something really boring.

In a good way.

Mannequin Men Demos

I know all of you think that we've been sitting at a playground drinking FourLoko for the past year, but we've been doing tons of demos, working on shit for an EP/LP that we're about to record...Now is the sharing portion of that. Let us know what you think, spread it around, play it for your mom, whatever...First one is one of our favorites, called 'Don't Grow'.

Chris and Scott Ligon-Oh What A Day

A record made by a dude and his younger brother in Chicago that makes me smile every single time.
Incredibly musical, clever, and well played. Something that should be a cult hit and for some godforsaken reason has gone relatively unnoticed. If this is what lo-fi actually sounded like, it would be something to get behind.

get all Chris' stuff at www.chrisligon.net. Hope he's not mad I'm posting this.

Oh! What a Day!

Gun Club-Miami

A record I had in my hold pile three times in my life and never bought. Finally, I guess I'm old enough to love it.
Everything I didn't like about the Gun Club the first time I heard them, and a ton of stuff I did. Great record.

Thunder Buffalo - S/T

Kids over at Ongakubaka turned me on to this. It's great. I couldn't be more bored with this bullshit where everyone tries to sound like Safe As Milk and totally blows it, but these guys seem to have a worthwhile perspective on it. There's some obvious stompers, and there's some definite middling songs...but hey, dudes, the wheel is the wheel. If you're going to claim you've made a huge improvement on it, it should still at least roll.

This does. Get it.
